After getting home, I finished putting together the computer I use at school.
The day before yesterday I was using it at home when the mouse suddenly died — the scroll wheel lost its scrolling function for no reason and turned into a free-spinning wheel…
I swapped in the old mouse from home, and it worked. ^_^
Yesterday morning, the mouse pad was so dusty that the optical sensor couldn’t track properly, so I tossed the mouse pad off to the side to cool down.
Yesterday evening, the replacement mouse died too — the wheel rolled, the left and right buttons clicked, but it wouldn’t move. Looked like it had been hit with a paralysis spell…
No choice — I went out that night and bought a new mouse…

At noon today it suddenly quit again — movement, scrolling, left and right buttons, all functions gone. It had turned into a statue… I started to suspect the mouse wasn’t the problem. Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed ^_^ Sweat. Ten minutes later, crippled again… Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed ^_^ Sweat. Five minutes later, crippled again… Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed －—－ Sweat. Two minutes later, crippled again… Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed －.－ Sweat. One minute later, crippled again… Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed －_－ Sweat. A few seconds later, crippled again… Unplugged and plugged it back in, fixed -_- Sweat. A while later, unplugging and plugging it back in did nothing at all… O_o Plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug — and finally it worked again.
To this day I still don’t understand what was going on.
Later I got to wondering whether it was just too hot, whether the machine couldn’t take it and the mouse went on strike first as a protest. So I got ready to turn on the air conditioner. Shit… not enough outlets. Number of usable sockets in this area − (tower ×2 + monitor ×2 + switch + ADSLM + audio + TV + air conditioner) required = one three-prong outlet short! Sweat! Major sweat!! Genghis Khan!!!
No choice — I had to kill one monitor (the one on the old machine at home) for the greater good. The air conditioner finally came on. To keep that computer usable after its monitor was killed, I enabled Remote Desktop on it. And then another problem showed up: too many viruses, interfering with process execution. So I had to reinstall the antivirus again… I downloaded the latest Rising from the machine I was currently using, and it wouldn’t even install! Memory error. Damn viruses.
The machine is beyond cure, infected to the bone. Antivirus can’t fix it, so I might as well just reinstall the OS… It mostly just sits there idle anyway, so why not install it as a 2003 server… What? The optical drive is broken?! Sweat! Major sweat!! Genghis Khan!!!
