The day before yesterday I installed win7 on the N80vn. The machine got restored N times, then I formatted the recovery partition too, and after it finally installed, the problems never stopped. Yesterday: N blue screens plus N crashes, and my RP (luck) hit rock bottom. Today it crashed once, and after a reboot it wouldn’t start at all — the hardware self-test failed. Frozen forever at checking nvram…
The one bit of luck in all this misfortune: before reinstalling I’d backed up the few projects I had on hand to the desktop, so I switched over to the desktop for the time being — at least its win7 is perfectly stable.
I heard about Allods, which is all the rage lately. They say it’s the next WoW, so I’ve got to play it when I have time. But the laptop has to go in for repairs first…
News from November 2009: Nival, the veteran Russian studio with 12 years of game development experience behind Heroes of Might and Magic V, has recently started recruiting closed beta testers for its newly developed cartoon-style MMORPG Allods Online (tentative Chinese title), which draws on Rage of Mages (aka Allods), a hugely popular RPG it released in 1998. The closed beta will kick off over the next few weeks.
[11.23 13:45] Around noon, an engineer came over from the Shenzhou Dongli Digital service station to take a look, and my laptop was diagnosed as needing treatment at a bigger hospital. The suspicion is that it’s an aftereffect of my formatting the hidden Recovery partition. Right now it can only boot into winpe, it can’t install any OS, and the hard drive shows as unavailable. I’m using a pitiful 1GB USB stick to back up data to the desktop.
