- An update to the design language
- A new aesthetic for desktop wallpapers, images get 3D perspective
- Camera icons go back to the iOS 6 style — and finally back to just two big tabs, photo/video
- The new design language will definitely hit front-end devs hard; not sure whether it’ll influence WeChat Mini Program design styles
- Metal has rendering performance to spare, but using it for flashy detail rendering like this — will it hurt battery life?
- Workout Buddy, haha, pretty nice — a personal trainer in your ear
- macOS Tahoe
- Custom folder icons and colors. I used to hand-make folder icons for my project folders, so finally I won’t have to. Useful! 👍
- Spotlight
- Global search and action execution, triggered by phrases, replacing apps like alfred. Nothing new, just absorbing what the community built into the official implementation. Looks useful! But Spotlight’s search hit rate is hard to describe — if the accuracy isn’t there, it’s all for nothing. 🤷
- Quick keys — no more setting up and memorizing every shortcut. Every app can have a command-line way of being used, making GUI apps as convenient as bash, or like autoCAD interaction. Looking forward to it! 😚
- It kills Clipy’s clipboard history. Looks useful! Clipboard app makers are crying in the bathroom. But it looks like it adds another click to the interaction, not sure if it’s good 🫤
- I’m not sure I really want macOS to stitch every other app’s features into the system. After all, system updates aren’t that frequent, yet it keeps getting more bloated.
- iPadOS
- Windowing, menu bar, operation almost identical to macOS; but with such small click targets, you probably can’t use it without buying a Magic Keyboard, right? Also, what’s the difference between close and minimize — what’s the point of close? On Mac you close a window because an app can have anywhere from zero to many windows; on iPadOS, is closing a window the same as
⌘+Qquitting the app, or the same as⌘+wclosing a window on macOS? - You can set a default app for opening files
- Folders can be pinned to the dock, just like on Mac
- FaceTime and other online video can be recorded system-wide
- This time it really feels like a computer. After all these years, the iPad has finally made it.
