Missing Grandma Again

These past few days, the heated debate over whether it’s “于是人” or “于斯人” has made me miss my grandma again.

I really want to go back to my hometown and dig through my old books, find my middle school Chinese textbook, and see what the original text I actually learned was. Seeing is believing.

My grandma is in Jiangyan, and she kept all my childhood textbooks at home too.

Alas, they’re all gone now, one after another. The home is gone, and Grandma is gone. These connections have been severed beyond any hope of repair.

Dreaming of the Past

Only in dreams can I see her again.
When I came home, Grandma would ask, “You’re here so late? Have you eaten? Are you hungry?” And all I wanted to say was, “I don’t want to leave this time. I want to stay forever…”

The Universe Remembers Everything

I tell myself it’s just a limitation of consciousness. To the universe, consciousness is insignificant, and the physical spacetime trajectory of a life is already etched into the infinite cosmos. There are always infinite light cones from which one can observe living an entire life with Great-Grandma all over again.

Beyond those light cones, Great-Grandma will arrive again. The universe will remember everything forever — love that never fades, information that never fades.

Every time you come toward me

Telling me of the sea of stars

A distant glimmer walks with me

Blooming at dawn

Will our love

Guard the sea like the stars

Never leaving

I run toward you

You are the sea of stars

The blazing star in my eyes

Lights my way through the long night
